A 2019 analysis by College Factual found the Maryville area to be a great location for international students looking to get an education at an affordable school.

Director for the International Involvement Center, Dr. Phil Hull says not only will international students find a great community in the Maryville area.

"I would say that there are probably several factors that contribute to that high ranking.  One is our consistent safety scoring - the Safest University Towns surveys.  We've consistently been scored in the top 30.  Another thing is that we have a low cost so I think that contributes because we have what I would call ancillary.  And I think the other thing is that we have scholarships available."

Hull also adds there are plenty of different programs to help international students become acquainted with the community.

"We have the Friends of International Students and incoming students can volunteer to participate in it and they are matched with volunteer families in the area to connect with their families, be invited into their homes, on picnics, or go on shopping trips.  Things of that sort."

Northwest is ranked #40 in the country and #3 in the State of Missouri for international students. Around 37 countries are represented at Northwest with the most popular being India, Nepal, and South Korea.
